Days 7&8 (Thursday/Friday)

On July 15th 2010, we drove 860 miles from Nauvoo, Illinois to Palmyra, New York. We got there that night and checked into the Quality Inn in Newark, NY, just outside of Palmyra. The Quality Inn was one of our least favorite hotels. It had a freezing swimming pool, plants in the place where there used to be a hot tub, no breakfast, and internet that wasn't working. The next day, Friday July 16th, we ate breakfast at Dunkin Donuts. We spent the day in Palmyra, taking tours of the Joseph Smith house, the visitors center, the Grandin Printing Press, the sacred grove, and the barn where the plates were hidden. At the Grandin Printing Press, we were given a tour by a Tongan sister missionary who loved to talk and was a little hard to understand. :)

At the Hill Cumorah pageant, they had people there selling food. We ordered barbecue chicken, and salt potatoes dipped in butter. Mom ate three orders of potatoes. :)

We took a lot of pictures, but you had to be there to appreciate the pageant. It was amazing and had lots of cool effects like fire and water and Jesus coming down from the sky. It was a neat experience.

Fantastic post! It's sad that the hotel was a disappointment...honestly, plants where the hot tub is supposed to be?! And no breakfast? But it still sounds like a fun couple of days. Mom must have loved those potatoes. :)
